The National Environment Management Authority (Nema) is warning Kenyans still using banned plastic bags.

The authority is asking Kenyans to dispose of all the plastic bags before they are arrested.

Nairobi County Nema director Njoki Mukiri Tuesday said the ban has been successful.

“Kenyans will always wait for the last minute. Only small traders, including mama mbogas and fruit sellers, who still have them [plastic bags],” she told The Star.

The ban took effect on August 28, 2017.

Last week, Nema officers nabbed a Nairobi resident selling plastic bags.

Michael Nene was arrested with 10 tonnes of plastic bags on September 5 at his business premises on Moi Avenue.
