The National Environmental Management Authority NEMA has warned that it will apply the full force of the law on persons found to be flouting the plastic bags ban.

The Authority conducted a surprise raid on two major markets in the city, arresting several people that were found in possession of the banned bags.

A raid by the National Environmental Management Authority officials at the City market and the City Park caught some traders unaware.

Though the government made it clear last year that the use and manufacture of plastic bags had been banned, NEMA says some quarters have refused to obey the law.

Officials of the environmental agency however experienced some resistance at the City Park Market resulting in the injury of one of them.

The Authority accused some cartels of being behind an organized scheme to disobey the ban which came into effect in October last year.
