Newly elected ACK Bishop of Diocese of Mombasa Alphonce Mwaro Baya will be installed on Sunday, January 21.

The ordination ceremony will be held at the Mombasa Memorial Cathedral and is expected to be attended by hundreds of Anglican faithful.

"We have to formally install the new bishop on Sunday before he can start his duties," announced Rev. Festus Kiseu, the Cathedral's provost.

Bishop Baya was last weekend ordained at the KPA Sports Club in Mbaraki, Mombasa.

The ceremony was conducted by the head of Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit.

Tight security had been deployed at the event following sharp divisions in the church.

Baya's election on a poll conducted on December 9, last year had almost split the down across the middle.

His win was highly contested by Kiseu among other priests but the month-long battle ended after a Mombasa court declared him validly elected.
