The National Anti-Corruption steering committee has established campaign networks dubbed ‘County Civilian Oversight Committees in 26 counties.
According to Adan Wachu who represented the National Anti-Corruption campaign chairman, the campaign's network will rely on members of the public to help in fighting and preventing corruption.
“They will also implement campaign programmes at the grassroots, mobilize the public to actively participate in the campaign and provide a support mechanism to the public to fight corruption,” he said in Eldoret town on Saturday.
“In the North Rift region, Civilian Oversight Committees have been established and operationalized in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Nandi counties," he added.
He noted that corruption was a serious threat to the successful implementation and achievement of the development agenda of both county and national governments.
“To prevent this menace mechanisms to stop corruption must be prioritized and all citizens must be brought on board to actively participate in the fight against corruption,” he said.
“The public should demand that all community projects have duly constituted project management committees, know the amount of money allocated and the period of allocation. This will enhance transparency and accountability," Wachu stated.
