Air transport in Kisumu over the weekend received a major boost after a new airline joined Kisumu International Airport (KIA).

Freedom Airline Express Limited launched its new route; Nairobi to Kisumu

The Airline will operate the Kisumu-Nairobi route four times a week at a cost of Sh5,500 for a one way ticket and Sh11,000 for a return journey.

The colorful launch ceremony was graced by ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga.

She noted that Kisumu is first becoming the most preferred destination for many airline operators, adding that the launch of new airline will be of great economical value to county and the western region at large..

"The stories of flights are full will now be a thing of the past," she said.

The Chief Executive Committee (CEC) in charge of Roads, Transport and Public Works, Thomas Owiti described Kisumu as having untapped opportunities urging more investors to invest in the Lakeside County.

Freedom Airline's Director in charge of Safety & Quality Zephania Sylvester said the Airline is considering operating routes to Entebbe Uganda and Mwanza Tanzania with Kisumu as the hub.

On his part, Kisumu International Airport General Manager Mr Joseph Okumu praised the county government for the continuous support it has given the operators at the airport.
