The Ministry of Health under its cabinet secretary, Cleopa Mailu and the principal secretary, Nicholas Muraguri has said that the new cigarette consumption laws will take root starting end of next month.
The PS on Tuesday said that the fancy packaging will be replaced by graphical warnings of the product's effects on the users and those surrounding them.
''The fancy looks of the packaging will be replaced by a graphical warning,.'' he said.
The new law states that no one will be allowed to smoke in public areas this as a measure to prevent second-hand smoking where the smoke affects the people around the consumer.
Also, the law bars the smokers from buying a single or several sticks of the product forcing them to purchase an entire packet at a go.
The law is also aimed at reducing the number of new infections which come as a result of the product with Muraguri blaming most of the new cancer cases in the country on cigarettes.
The new laws have since been published by the cabinet secretary in the Kenyan Gazette.
