The incoming Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega yesterday took over office and called residents to support the government to curb insecurity.
Wilson Njega said security is a collective responsibility of every Kenyan hence the need to work closely with security agents.
He said for the region to develop, locals need to cooperate with his office and other government agencies.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Mr Njega said residents should embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative to flush out all criminals in their midst.
“The government cannot succeed in the war against criminal activities without the support from citizens,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by sub county deputy commissioners and county commissioners from Nyanza region.
The former Nyandarua County Commissioner replaced outing Commissioner Francis Mutie who has served in the region since July 2009. Mutie was moved to Harambee house in Nairobi.
Njega noted that Nyanza faces a lot of cattle rustling challenges at the borders and asked chiefs, sub county and county administrators to be vigilant.
He, however warned rustlers to stop the vice saying his administration will not tolerate acts of lawlessness.
Mutie said locals should work with the newly posted Commissioner to enhance developments in the region.
He said Kenya is facing terror threats and asked residents to cooperate with Njega to flush out criminals.
“We should not allow terrorists’ attempts to divide us on religious or tribal lines. You should appreciate the fact that we are all Kenyans’.” Mutie said.
