The government has embarked on the last phase of implementation of the new curriculum by announcing that the distribution of the curriculum's textbook will commence next week.
Kenya Institute of curriculum Development (KICD) CEO Julius Juan has assured teachers that materials for the new syllabus will be availed in the schools from next week.
This comes after The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) made complains about a hitch in the implementation that has been caused by the lack of textbooks and teachers guide books leaving them stranded on how to go about the roll out.
KNUT Executive Secretary of the Nairobi KNUT branch, Macharia Mugwe, on Thursday said that schools are stranded due to lack of materials.
"We have no materials in our schools, can people be given more time, you are giving teachers a hard time," said Mr Macharia.
On Friday, acting education CS Dr Fred Matiang'i confirmed that there are challenges in implementing the new curriculum but the govern is working to correct them.
"there is still room for discussion and we are open to ideas to boost the curriculum. however we believe that the value based system will also take care of our cultures and African values," CS matiang'i said.
CS Matiang'i , who was speaking during a meeting with education stakeholders at Strathmore University said that the overhaul of the curriculum will be a gradual process that should be undertaken with caution. h said that the process will end in 2027.
