The Ministry of Education has expressed its commitment to working with partners and stakeholders in the sector so as to address challenges the country's education system is facing.

Uasin Gishu Education County Director Dr. Nicodemus Anyang' has further expressed optimism that the new education system in the country will help address some of the weaknesses in the sector.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday while launching a report on the '2016 Uwezo beyond Basics Assessment in Kenya', Dr. Anyang' challenged headteachers to positively embrace findings in the report.

"The report has exhibited weaknesses in our children and headteachers should embrace the report and come up with strategies to seal the gaps," Anyang' said.

"As a ministry, we believe that with the Competency Based curriculum that emphasizes children's ability and skills, some of the weaknesses mentioned will be addressed," he added.

Some of the shocking findings in the report indicate that more than 8 in 10 class 5 and 6 pupils cannot correctly read time on a clock face and tell the date on the calendar.

The report was compiled after an assessment was conducted in 200 schools across 10 districts among them Eldoret West in Uasin Gishu county.
