The debate on who will succeed NASA presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga once he completes his term in office, if he ascends to power, has continued to attract mixed reactions.
Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that he will not automatically succeed Raila after he retires from politics.
The Ukambani political kingpin said that he will suggest the NASA co-principal who will win the most seat parliamentary seats in the forthcoming general elections to be given a chance to take over the opposition leader.
Kalonzo, however, said that he is optimistic that Wiper will win more seats to enable him secure the post.
“When that time comes, I will ask my brothers to consider whoever has brought more seats and I know I will," said Kalonzo, as quoted by Standard.
The former vice president also said that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure that Raila does not cling on power when that time comes.
"We agreed that we all shelve our ambitions of becoming President to back Raila. We signed a deal, which is now a public document, that he will only be a one-term President," Kalonzo told Jubilant supporters during opposition’s rally in Machakos.
If Kalonzo’s words are anything then it is clear he will not succeed Raila automatically.
