Residents in Kisumu county have urged the newly appointed Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officials to redeem public confidence in the body.

The residents have also challenged the newly appointed commissioners to redeem the integrity of the anti-graft body.

Speaking to town dwellers at the city square on Monday, Joseph Oketch said the commission should take into consideration the high expectations of Kenyans.

“We are watching to see what the new commissioners will do. They should remember Kenyans are keen on what action they will take to tame high level of corruption especially among government officials and parastatal heads in the country,” said the resident.

Janet Obiero said the commissioners should take their time and understand the nature of corruption in the country.

“The new officials should take some lessons from commissioners who served in the body before them like PLO Lumumba,” she said.

“They should liaise with the CJ Willy Mutunga about the cartels he recently alluded to in his speech, which he said are powerful. This way they can uncover how they operate, their accomplices in the government and how to deal with them,” added Obiero.

The new appointees led by Chairman Phillip Kinusu swore in early Monday alongside five others.

They are taking helm of the body amid high-octane claims of corruption in the country.
