In what may change the political game plan ahead of the 2017 general elections, leaders from Western Kenya allied to the now defunct New Ford Kenya party.
The leaders paid President Uhuru Kenyatta a courtesy call at State House in a move seen by many as a rubber stamp to the resolve to join the Jubilee party.
The leaders led by their chairman, Governor Ken Lusaka of Bungoma, former Cabinet Minister, Musikari Kombo and Cabinet Secretary; Eugene Wamalwa said they had taken the bold move in a bid to unite Kenyans.
Even as the party heeds the merger call, what may stun many is the presence of former Westlands MP and key member of the opposition orange party, Fred Gumo in the team that met the president.
This happens as the opposition faces hurdles with its key members bolting out including its Secretary General, Ababu Namwamba who made a return to the city after a 12 day stay of his western home turf.
However, the president was quick to point out that the government has no intentions whatsoever to scuttle the opposition.
The President noted that New Ford Kenya has taken the right move, saying for the first time in the history of Kenya leaders are keen on forming a party with a national outlook.
Governor Lusaka said the decision to fold their party was unanimous.
