A new High Court has been established by the Judiciary in Kiambu.
According to new postings announced on Tuesday by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, the court will be headed by Justice Joel Ngugi.
Justice Ngugi was the head of the Judiciary Training Institute, off Kiambu Road. He was replaced by Justice J Otieno-Odek.
Chief Justice Mutunga indicated that the transfers will take effect from 2nd June 2016 to allow the judges time to finish the cases they are handling.
The new court is expected to reduce pressure on existing courts in Kiambu as they are overwhelmed with cases.
Mutunga promised residents the establishment of a High Court when launching the Magistrates and Kadhis Courts Registry manual at Limuru law courts in February this year.
The High Court is a premier court in interpreting the Constitution, hears appeals from subordinate courts and tribunals and supervises all administrative bodies. It has jurisdiction to hear all criminal and civil cases.
