Muslim leaders at the unveiling of the Horizon TV [PHOTO/standardmedia.co.ke]A new Islamic TV station has been opened in Nairobi.
Horizon TV was launched on Friday and will air content that targets the Muslim community and Kenyans in general.
The Jamia Mosque-owned channel will reach out to the audience on religious and social matters affecting society as well as air shows for women, youths and children among others.
Speaking during the launch, Jamia Mosque Committee Chairman Sheikh Osman Warfa disclosed that the channel wants to meet the rising demand for family-friendly content which is culturally and morally sensitive.
"The TV content also aims to correct misconceptions about Islam and Muslims and nurture constructive dialogue, tolerance and cooperation among all Kenyans," he said.The channel's board chair Prof. Abdullatif Essajee revealed that they will champion issues that affect Kenyans in general and and the Muslim community so as to contribute to Kenya's socioeconomic development.
"We will strive to provide positive narratives about Muslims and Kenyans as well as educate and entertain our viewers in ways that do not violate moral and Islamic principles," he said.
