The newly appointed Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) under the leadership of Prof George Mogoha should constitute a technical committee that will be mandated to dispatch national exams to various centers, according to Dr Nyandoro Kambi.
The former Knec board, under the management of Dr Joseph Kivilu, was dissolved by Education CS Fred Matiang'i following massive examination malpractices in 2015 national exams -- both KCPE and KCSE.
Nyandoro said cleaning of top management of Knec was a ‘drop in the ocean’ insisting that most irregularities took place during circulation to examination centers through police stations.
“I still refuse to blame top management alone. Cleaning the top management is just but a drop in the ocean. Examination malpractices trickles down the chain I think most of the leakage takes place during dispatching of papers to examination centres,” Nyandoro said.
“As much as I welcome dissolution of the former board, I think the new team should come up with a special committee to be in charge of paper circulation to all centers,” he added.
He said the council will then be able to punish specific people in case of any examination leakages and subsequent malpractices.
“In my view, the new committee in charge of circulation will thereafter take responsibility for any reported examination leakages,” said.
“Using police stations is very risky and I think it’s the genesis of the predicaments we are undergoing as a country in terms of safeguarding the integrity of our tests,” Nyandoro said during an interview with the reporter.
