A county law to govern public health and sanitation in Nakuru County has been launched.
Speaking during the launch on Wednesday, Nakuru Deputy Governor Eric Korir, said the County Public Health and Sanitation Act 2017 will go a long way in securing the welfare of residents.
"This piece of legislation will be a major boost in carrying out research in prevention, guarding and suppression of infectious diseases in the county," he said.
The law protects the public against health hazards by individuals or institutions through the use of residential or commercial premises to store any waste material in a way that might cause a health nuisance.
In the recommended law, persons found culpable of discharging any liquid waste on public land, water bodies or sewerage system would be liable of a fine not exceeding three years or a jail term not exceeding three years or both.
The Act further grants the county government power to demolish structures that may be regarded as a threat to public health and safety.
