The multi-million new medical equipment that was launched a fortnight ago by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital is lying underutilised due to lack of trained personnel to handle the machines.
Nakuru county Health minister Dr Kabii Mungai said the new modern facilities are yet to be put to use because the hospital has a shortage of nurses.
Kabii said the new renal unit, the modern ICU and the MRI department have not been operational since they were launched by the President.
"Yes, the new machines were launched by the President but wananchi have not started enjoying the benefits because we don't have trained personnel who can handle the equipment and that is why they are still idle," said Kabii.
"We are doing our best to hire at least 35 new nurses as soon as we can so that we can put the machines to use for the benefit of the people on Nakuru," he added.
Kabii called on Nakuru residents to be patient, promising that soon they will start enjoying the services of the state-of-the-art equipment.
