According to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi the leaders have come into conclusion with the government and a 90-kilogramme bag of maize will be bought for Sh3,000 as compared to the current prices by the middlemen of sh 1,000 .

Most farmers have been blaming the NCPB for the delay buying their produce which they harvested in October and they are required to keep it at 13.5 per cent moisture content and also meet the huge costs of open field drying and transportation.

This comes as a relief to farmers in the North Rift region who feared incurring extra costs in drying the maize to attain the 13 per cent moisture content required by private millers and other post-harvest losses.

Leaders in the region recently praised the ministry for intervening to save farmers from further exploitation by unscrupulous traders, who offered them low prices for their produce.

Area leaders said they had been assured of the reopening of the stores after a crisis meeting they held with Agriculture Cabinet secretary Felix Koskei in Nairobi two weeks ago which was also attended by representatives of farmers from maize growing regions.
