The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has proposed the division of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, along the Salgaa black spot, in a bid to tame the regular recurrence of accidents in the region.

Addressing the press Tuesday, moments after another grisly accident in Sachang'wan, in the same area, NTSA Director General Francis Mejja said that the plan is to ensure that vehicles coming from both directions have no contact.

This, he said, will as a result eradicate head-on collisions that have been rampant in the route stretching from Sobea through Salgaa-Migaa-Sachang'wan to Total Junction.

He also added that the tender for the new project is almost complete and will be out soon.

''In a week's time, a tender will be out to correct the Salgaa strip, we want to separate the road to ensure that vehicles from the Eldoret and Nakuru sides are completely separated,'' said Mejja.

With regards to Tuesday's accident involving a trailer ferrying fertilizer and several other vehicles, Meja rubbished claims that the accident resulted aftet a chase by his officers as was reported by some eye witnesses.

He said that the NTSA officers were actually trying to alert other road users upon realizing that the driver of the trailer could no longer control the vehicle.

''The people reporting that our officers were pursuing the trailer are completely wrong, our chase car was trying to alert other road users after realizing that the driver of the trailer had lost control and could ram into other vehicles. The public should stop speculations,'' he said.
