The proposed new multi-billion state of the art Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) will consist of hostel accommodation and hospitality services facility.
According to the hospital's CEO Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, the facility will offer accommodation for patients' relatives as they undergo treatment.
"The new multi-specialty MTRH will have a 200-bed hostel for relatives or caretakers of patients to stay at for the whole duration of a patient’s hospitalization at a small fee. Relatives being around aids a patient’s recovery," he said in Eldoret town, Sunday.
"This will reduce the number of patients going abroad on account of poor hospitality locally," he added.
He, however, said that the groundbreaking ceremony of the new MTRH will be conducted soon.
"Procurement, contractual and issues of finance are being finalized and soon the groundbreaking ceremony of the 4,000 inpatient bed capacity hospital will be conducted," said Dr. Aruasa.
The hospital will be constructed on a 200-acre piece of land at GK prisons in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
"Phase one will consist of 2,000 inpatient bed capacity while the second phase will see an additional 2,000 inpatient bed capacity constructed," he said.
He, however, revealed that once the new Moi and Referal Hospital is completed the Uasin Gishu County Government will work on a transitional and management plan for the current MTRH.
"Specialty health services will continue to be managed by MTRH specialists," noted Dr. Aruasa.
