President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday nominated Rashid Mohammed Achesa as the new Sports cabinet secretary replacing Hassan Wario who has since been redeployed as Kenya's ambassador to Austria.
Not much is known about the new nominee on matters administration although he comes from the political wing had been an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader previously before crossing over to the ruling Jubilee party.
The ministry also rebranded and will now be known as the ministry of Sports and Heritage and not Sports, Arts, and Culture as it was previously known.
The developments now put to rest the incessant calls for Wario to relinquish the position following the mismanagement of Kenya's Olympic team in Rio in 2016 as well as the failed bid to host the African Nations Championship over poor preparations.
The stormy goings-on at the ministry also saw the minister shy away from public appearances with his principal secretary Peter Kaberia who has since been retained representing the minister on most occasions.
However, it was not all gloom for Wario's four-year tenure as it was marked by some relative success that included hosting the IAAF World Youth Championship in 2017 as well as a double victory for Harambee Stars during the 2013 and the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge tourney.
