The political situation in Ukambani is likely to take a different twist after of one the gubernatorial aspirants from this part of the nation unveiled plans to launch a new party this week.
The new development will signal the tough times for some of the leaders pushing for Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to rise to power.
New Democrats, under the leadership businessman David Masika, is set to be launched tomorrow at the Boulevard Hotel, Nairobi before its grand launch in Makueni county.
Masika will be contesting for the Makueni Governorship seat currently held by governor Kivutha Kibwana. The party leader, and the ex-managing trustee of the National Social Security Fund, has confirmed that he had already presented his nomination papers to run against Kivutha Kibwana through Wiper but he was forced to change his mind after the county boss entered a pact with the former vice President and party leader, reports the Star.
In an exclusive interview with the local daily, Masika has maintained that he is still in good terms with Kibwana as much as he wants to dethrone him from power in the forthcoming general polls. “My main reason [for decamping] is the kind of contract between the leader of Wiper and Prof Kibwana, part of which guaranteed prof Kibwana direct nominations. So what does this mean for me?” he asked.
The new party will back NASA candidate in the presidential race when that time comes. “Definitely we would go the NASA way....I must say whatever it is that we are doing has the blessing of the leader of Wiper,” Masika told the daily.
