The National EnvironmentManagement Authority (NEMA) and the Ministry of Environment are set to create a new position in all the 47 counties across the country.
The Council of Governors on Monday announced that NEMA is set to gazette members of the county staff as Environment Inspectors to help enforce the ban on plastic bags.
"On the ban of plastic bags, the Council has agreed with the Ministry that NEMA will gazette County staff as environmental inspectors to help in monitoring compliance," said CoG chair Josephat Nanok.
The move comes after challenges were experienced in implementing the plastic bag ban imposed last year by CS Judy Wakhungu.
Reports of rogue manufacturers circulating the papers have emerged.
