The Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring all imported seed is fit for the county's ecological zones.
KEPHIS Managing Director Esther Kimani has further revealed that they will soon be introducing a new potato seed variety both local and from the Netherlands.
"As an institution, we are organizing a field day where potato varieties will be showcased to farmers as well as offer an opportunity for them to learn more on cultivation and disease mitigation," Kimani said on Thursday when she paid a courtesy call to Deputy governor Daniel Chemno.
County Secretary Peter Lelei welcomed the introduction of the new potato seed which he said will be critical to farmers.
"We are looking forward as a County to partnering with stakeholders in training farmers on issues of potato growing," Lelei said.
"Agriculture is our County's identity and backbone and we have no reason to avoid it," he added.
