Kiambu dairy farmers have a reason to smile thanks to their decision to establish  a milk processing plant in the area.

Uplands Premium Dairies and Foods, is a project of farmers in the area that assures farmers of ready market.

The project is a reprieve to farmers who have been selling their milk at a throw away price to vendors. However with this initiative dairy farmers are set to increase steadily due to the huge returns from this venture. Jane Thuo a famer in Kabete says that the project has given them a new lease of life.

“I can now engage in dairy farming because I am assured of the market,” she said.

She added that with the current price of Sh35 per litre she can be able to educate her children who are in secondary schools.

According to Tetra Park report milk demand in Kenya is rising steadily and is likely to outstrip supply in the near future.
