The National Transport and Safety Authority intend to ensure drunken drivers are punished, as a way of curbing accidents on Kenyan roads.

The plan to have drunken drivers to work in mortuaries is in the offing, which will go into the list of measures the authority has tried to use to stop the rot on Kenyan roads.

In the past, NTSA has used many measures to try restoring order and saving lives, including hefty fines and threats to recall driving license.

However, the latest proposal seems to be the most severe if implemented.

The move, though, has been fought by morticians, who have asked NTSA to respect their profession.

According to Ezra Olak, the Chairman of the National Funeral Services Association, the transport body is undermining their profession.

Olak says they have a code of conduct and ethics to adhere to, and the NTSA should consider other measures including increasing the fines given on such drivers instead of subjecting them to working in mortuaries.

The suggestion has received varied reactions from Kenyans, with many against the proposal.
