The sudden wave of terrorism that is gradually metamorphosing in the country is very much alarming and this now calls for an urgent evaluation of all our security apparatus.
The new tactics being exploited by terrorists seem to have caught our state security machinery unawares. While it is quite important to point out and appreciate the efforts made by our officers to forestall deadly terror attacks, it is crystal clear that the terrorists have adopted new strategies to beat our tight security nets.
Lately, radicalisation of our youths has been increasing by each sunrise. Our institutions of higher learning have become the greatest target with some students from poor backgrounds being lured either with cash or false Islamic teachings to join the terrorist cells as Al-Shabaab and ISIS.
There is need to conduct crackdown on these academic institutions to curb radicalisation that is frustrating our own security agencies, that are also grappling with incidents where few errant officers are also becoming sympathetic to these terrorist groups.
Our security officers, especially the intelligence units, need to be cognizant of all the possible loopholes that may be exploited by terrorists. We should also not be surprised if our small kids are used in future to stage attacks.
