A newborn baby has been found dead on a roadside in Thika town wrapped in a paper.
The naked baby, which had some injuries on the chest, was noticed yesterday by college students passing by from their hostel on their way to school. They reported to the police officers on patrol.
The incident, which comes just some days after a woman was arrested in Witeithie estate after selling her new-born kid, has been condemned by Thika sub-county police boss Shadrack Maithya, who said he had some intelligence that it was a college student who committed the crime.
“I’m aware that this has been committed by a resident of the area and we are investigating the matter. Immediately we gather enough evidence we will prosecute the criminal,” said Maithya.
“These cases have been on the rise and we will deal with any culprit suspected to have been involved in such an offence,” the police boss added.
The witnesses were interrogated and the officer said they will act as police informers in the case, though he did not give the exact information he got from the witnesses.
The body of the deceased was taken to Thika Level Five mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
