A newborn boy was on Monday rescued alive from a toilet in Matuu town in Yatta sub-county, Machakos county.
The child who was allegedly dumped by the mother immediately after birth was fortunately saved alive after tenants heard him crying and alerted the police.
Confirming the incident Yatta sub-county OCPD Kipsang Chagach stated that the child was rushed to Matuu level 4 hospital.
"Yesterday at around 7am in Matuu township area, they reported that there was an infant crying in the latrine and police rushed to the scene and with the help of members of the public they managed to retrieve the baby boy and rushed him to Matuu level 4 hospital," said Kipsang.
However, the tenants identified the mother of the baby as a 20-year-old- girl who was expectant and helped the police trace her.
"We launched investigation into the incident immediately, and one Emily Nduku Tabitha aged 20 years was arrested and taken to Matuu level 4 where she is receiving treatment with the boy," he added.
The police boss has stated that the mother of the child will be charged in court after she recovers.
