Newly appointed AG Paul Kihara Kariuki rose from humble begins as the last born of Mr Obadiah Kariuki who reared goats and sheep until he rose to a bishop.
Bishop Kariuki married Ms Wairimu in 1930 at the St John's Kiambaa church and AG Kariuki was their last born son.
The two had 11 children together.
Just like his father before his appointment to the bench, the AG also very religious served as the chancellor of the Anglican Church of Kenya.
He first served as a Judge following an appointment by former President Mwai Kibaki who appointed him to the batch on October 12, 2003.
Before his appointment, Judge Kariuki was the Director of Kenya school of law and was the one who oversaw it's move from valley road to Karen.
AG Kariuki rose through ranks within the judiciary that includes duty judge in the High Court a position he took over from Justice Isaac Lenaola.
At that time Justice Lenaola has been appointed as a member of the tribunal that investigates judges.
In 2006 former Chief Justice Gicheru appointed an integrity review committee where judge Kariuki served as Chairman.
In 2009 Magistrate's Rosemelle Mutoka's appointment as director Judicial Training Institute was revoked and instead, Justice Kariuki appointed to the position.
However, his career later that year was faced with challenges as rumors started that there were plans to appoint him the CJ.
This saw him sent to Machakos High Court where he served as a judge.
