[Photo/ Maxwell Ngala]Tononoka MCA-elect Ali Omar Shariff has lauded the young leaders in Mombasa who emerged victorious in the recently concluded August 8 polls.Shariff said though the battle was tough, majority of youth who vied for MCA positions have made it to the Mombasa County Assembly.Speaking at Mwembe kuku area on Tuesday during a meeting with youth, Shariff said it was time for the new crop of youthful leaders to “clean up the mess in the County Assembly”.He said the newly elected MCAs will focus on uplifting the living standards of residents, especially youths, and develop a plan that will see them benefit from various funds and projects that will be implemented by the county government.The 28-year-old politician said the new Mombasa County Assembly should show a difference by working hard and ensuring residents in all the 30 wards in the county are fully represented.“We should work with the governor, our MPs and all the other leaders in the county to ensure development is realised at the grass roots level,” said Shariff.He raised concerns over the mushrooming of juvenile criminal gangs in the county as well as drug abuse among youth, adding that these are the kind of issues that need urgent attention from the new County Assembly.On his part, Majengo MCA-elect Ahmed Khamis, vowed to transform the ward which he said is known for negative things such extremism, drug addiction and poor education standards.“We have been yearning for our own to get into the County Assembly and to other elective posts as well and here we are. Let us support each other and work towards developing our ward,” said Khamis when he addressed youth at Majengo market.
