Devolution Party of Kenya (DPK) which was launched in March this year has nominated candidates to take part in the next general elections.Party leader Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga issued 60 nomination certificates to candidates to vie for various elective posts on August 8.Mwinga said the candidates were given direct nominations because they did not have any opponents.He said he was happy that the party had attracted candidates in all seats from MCA to governor in all the Coast counties.“We will meet as a party on May 8 to ratify the list of nominees before handing it over to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on May 10,” he said.“Our register is still open and we welcome those who wish to join us and apply for a DPK ticket so as they are able to contest in any position,” he added.He, however, said the party will not field a presidential candidate but will instead decide whether to support Uhuru Kenyatta or Raila Odinga.Mwinga said the party will ensure its candidates meet all the requirements and avoid being disqualified by IEBC.Michael Tinga who will challenge Amason Jeffa Kingi for the Kilifi governor's seat was among those issued with the party's certificates.
