Thika Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a has called on the Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi to crack the whip on the strikes being experienced in some schools across the country.

The legislator said that the strikes are a major issue that should be resolved immediately as it may cause more damages if no permanent solution is reached.

Speaking in Thika Town on Wednesday, the MP said she was saddened by the Stephjoy schools incidences and does not wish for the same to happen in her area.

She insisted that the Ministry of Education should be in a position to address the issue adding that the administration, parents and the education stakeholders should join hands and tame the problem.

“Kaimenyi should take responsibility and curb these strikes before they spread to my area. I don’t want to imagine the Stephjoy incident recurring in Thika schools,” said Ng’ang’a.

She faulted the teachers for blaming students saying that no student will ever like examinations and that they should get better ways of addressing the problems rather than corporal punishment as the children have emotions too.

She noted that Kaimenyi is taking too long to address the issue and that scraping the Mock exams from the schools curricula will never solve the problem as the education levels will decline.

She also appealed to teachers to listen to the grievances being raised by students to avert strikes, destruction of property and loss of lives.
