Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo’s supporters were involved in a disagreement on Sunday when the two leaders met at the Thika Stadium.
The supporters engaged in heckling the leaders when they arrived at the area for the celebration of 30 years in the music industry by a local musician.
Ng’ang’a was the first to arrive at the stadium accompanied by several members of parliament among them Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Esther Gathogo (Ruiru), Francis Munyua (Juja), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and several Kiambu MCAs.
The rival supporters heckled her saying that she has betrayed them as she does not want to work with Kabogo while singing praises of the governor. The situation worsened when a group of youths fired back and started singing praises for Ng’ang’a and produced banners bearing her name and praises.
30 minutes later, Kabogo arrived accompanied by recently impeached Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria in a convoy of about 15 vehicles. Among the vehicles were the controversial Land Rovers bearing his county officials including several county askaris.
The crowd rose up and confronted him and mentioning the land rovers which the public and several leaders in Kiambu were opposed to before they were purchased.
However Thika police officers were able to calm the situation and with the leaders’ intervention, the residents remained calm until they delivered their speeches.
This was the first time governor Kabogo addressed the public in Thika town since he moved to Kiambu, the constituted county headquarters earlier.
