The Energy Regulatory Commission might reduce the cost of power when it reviews the next fuel cost charge. The Commission Director General, Joseph Ng'ang'a said the ongoing rains have increased the hydro-generation capacity. “The benefits of the rain will now be felt by the consumers. The cost of power will be down taking into accounts the ongoing rainfall across the country,” he said. Ng'ang'a said the commission will use that account to bring down the cost of power to consumers across the country. He announced that over the last four months the cost of power has not changed. The fuel surcharge is normally a pass through cost that caters for fuel used to generate thermal power. Ng'ang'a further called upon electricians and electrical contractors to ensure they carry out quality work. Speaking in Kisumu when he opened an awareness workshop for electricians and electrical contractors, Ng'ang'a says the commission is out to mentor young people coming up in the profession to increase its credibility. The Director General said the work done must be credible and meets the required standard. He said it is very unfortunate to hear after fire incidences in the country that it has been caused by an electrical fault. The Director General said the credibility of the commission is at stake whenever an electrical fault occurs.
