Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has warned politicians across the political divide against spewing hatred in their campaigns even as they drum up support ahead of the 2017 general election.

Nga’ng’a says that politicians should stop making statements that could easily trigger violence.

Speaking to journalists at Thika town on Tuesday, the lawmaker asked the police to arrest politicians who spew hatred and incitement in their campaigns.

She said that politicians take advantage of the electioneering period to spew hatred among locals.

“The police and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) should act tough on politicians who are bent on inciting the public,” she said.

The MP urged [politicians seeking elective seats to preach unity in their campaigns. “Whether you Jubilee or Cord, we must preach unity and bring Kenyans together especially this electioneering period,” said Ng’ang’a.

The lawmaker who is leading Jubilee party campaigns in Kiambu urged locals not to be swayed by politicians spewing propaganda.

She claimed that some politicians are spreading malicious propaganda aimed at tarnishing her name ahead of the 2017 polls.

Ng’ang’a is seeking to defend her seat in 2017. She faces stiff competition from Jungle Nuts CEO Patrick Wainaina who has vowed to unseat her in next year’s general election.

During the Jamhuri day celebrations at Ndumberi grounds on Monday, Governor William Kabogo also cautioned politicians against inciting locals.

Kabogo appealed to politicians to perpetuate mature campaigns and politics ahead of the 2017 elections.

The Kiambu government warned that acts of intolerance among politicians across the political divide will result in violence as the country gears up to the 2017 polls.
