Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa has challenged residents to embrace agribusiness.

Speaking to journalists from his Ngewa office on Wednesday, Thang’wa said that residents can make can make good money through agribusiness.

He noted that many residents are not practising agribusiness adding that it is through it that locals can boost their livelihoods.

Thang'wa said that many farmers across the country have embraced the practice and that it is Ngewa farmers' turn to do so.

He said that farming should be taken as a business venture apart from providing food. The MCA also challenged residents to adopt other crops in their farming.

He observed that over-reliance on traditional crops like maize and Irish potatoes threaten the food security of the area. Thang’wa challenged farmers to embrace crops like sweet potatoes, beans and bananas which he said have high yields. He also challenged area youths to embrace farming.

He said that youths can make real money if they take up farming instead of wasting a lot of time in search of white collar jobs.

"The problem with most of our youths is that they don't want to take up farming," he said.
