Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has praised President Uhuru Kenyatta's the state of nation address's speech delivered at the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Ngilu said Uhuru's speech was a clear indication that he yearns for a united country.
In an interview with a local daily on Thursday, Ngilu said President Uhuru Kenyatta's boldness and firmness on matters of unity is good for the country.
She said the president wants to live a good legacy when his term ends in 2022.
"President Kenyatta is keen and committed on uniting the country and every Kenyan must support his push," Ngilu said.
Ngilu said the country needs unity and peace to realize her development agenda.
Governor Ngilu stated that politicians across the divide have no option but to support Uhuru's agenda.
The Kitui governor pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to reach out to all Kenyans in his agenda of uniting the country.
On Wednesday, during his joint parliamentary address, Kenyatta pleaded for Kenyans' forgiveness.
President Kenyatta said other politicians including himself failed to spearhead unity during and after last year's divisive general election.
On March 9, President Kenyatta met with NASA leader Raila Odinga and agreed to shelve their political differences in pursuit of the country's unity.
