Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has hit out at the Jubilee government accusing it of failing to fulfill its promise of providing water to Ukambani locals and Kenyans at large.
The former CS says that the Jubilee government promised to supply Kenyans with clean water but the same has not happened.
Speaking at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Wote, Makueni on Sunday, Ngilu said that millions of Kenyans cannot access clean water.
She said that Kenyans in some parts of the country have to walk for kilometers in search of the precious commodity.
While citing Ukambani region, the former CS said that access to water remains a big challenge.
“The Jubilee government had an elaborate plan to supply Kenyans especially in semi-arid areas with clean water but the plan has never been actualized,” she said.
Ngilu claimed that Ukambani locals have no access to clean water a situation that he said contributes to high poverty levels.
She urged the Uhuru Kenyatta government to ensure locals are supplied with water.
Ngilu also hit out at county governments in the Ukambani region accusing them of denying locals basic services like water.
The former CS asked locals to vote for leaders who will transform the region.
She said issues facing the Ukambani can only be addressed by visionary leaders. Ngilu has declared interest to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial race in the coming 2017 polls.
