Former Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) Charity Ngilu has asked politicians in the Ukambani region to spearhead unity of the region ahead of the 2017 elections.
Ngilu says that the region needs to unite for it to make informed decisions in the forthcoming 2017 general elections.
The former CS warns that acts of intolerance being perpetuated by some politicians are not good for the unity and peace of the region.
“It is disturbing to see some politicians perpetuate hatred and political division’s among the Kamba people,” she said during the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti's husband Prince Henry Dolamu Oduwole in Machakos on Friday.
The former CS said that time for selfish politics is over stating that politicians must commit themselves to preach unity.
Ngilu urged Ukambani residents to keep off politicians who are only interested in causing divisions.
The former Lands CS who has declared interest in the Kitui gubernatorial seat called on politicians to engage in meaningful campaigns that are based on issues.
“There is no need for us to engage in smear campaigns that will create enmity among Kenyans,” she added.
Ngilu has not declared the party she will be using to unseat Governor Julius Malombe.
However, sources close to the former CS claim that she might join the Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper party.
Musyoka has several times lured Ngilu to the opposition after she was suspended by the President Uhuru Kenyatta over graft allegations last year.
