The County Government of Kitui has embarked on a three-month ambitious plan to improve local the road network through the grading of dirtroads across all 40 wards.
Governor Charity Ngilu said the initiative will by April see the construction of at least 1,200 kilometers of rural roads rendered impassable during the last rainy season.
She spoke at Kitui Stadium in Kitui Town when she flagged off a batch of road construction machinery to the various work sites.
Mrs Ngilu said through the programme, implemented by the County Department of Lands and Infrastructure, each ward will have at least 30 kilometers of road improved ahead of the coming rainy season.
She reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing improved infrastructure across the vast county in a bid to open-up remote parts for business opportunities with a view to boosting trade.
“Better roads will open up rural markets for trade through safe and efficient movement of traders and their commodities,” said the county boss.
“We all desire good roads and that is why we are keen to invest in this programme,” she added.
