The Kitui county government under the leadership of Governor Charity Ngilu has partnered with JHPIEGO through its APHIAplus KAMILI project to offer free medical services to the residents.

Ngilu had promised to change the lives of the residents through better health care while campaigning for the post.

More than 13,000 residents from different parts of the county have received free medical care under the programme dubbed The Kitui Government Mobile Medical Outreach Services.

The programme was launched by the incumbent governor two weeks ago. According to County Director of Health Dr Evans Mumo, the programme has been addressing different areas including immunization, family planning, screening, laboratory services and antenatal care among others.

“The activities have been taking place daily in Mwingi North, Mwingi Central, Mwingi West, Kitui East and Kitui South using three mobile vans from the County Government of Kitui and two mobile vans from APHIAplus KAMILI spread in two wards in every subcounty,” Mumo said.

The programme was launched at a time when nurses have been on strike over their dissatisfaction of wages and working conditions.

Speaking during his inauguration, Ngilu pledged to address health care, infrastructure, women empowerment and security among others areas of economy.
