Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has claimed that she was the target of an assassination attempt in Friday’s accident where former Kitui Mayor Martha Mwangangi was killed.

Speaking on Saturday at her Ithookwe home, the former Cabinet Secretary said that all evidence pointed at the fact that the speeding truck targeted her.

“If I wasn’t the target, why did he take a turn like he was entering the station and then speed off after driving into the crowd and crushing the mayor?” she posed.

Ngilu pointed out that the fire fighting engine together with its driver was on an unusual mission because there was no fire in town in the first place.

“I joined the peaceful protest and advised the hawkers on how they could seek redress. That we finished by 11am, and then proceeded to dialogue with police over boda boda issues. Where was the fire in town?” she questioned.

The driver of the truck is already being investigated on charges of causing death.
