Kitui County government has postponed this weekend’s much-awaited and publicized Kitui 7s rugby tournament.

Governor Charity Ngilu on Thursday postponed the tournament that was set for Saturday to  May 1, which will also serve as Madaraka Day celebrations event. 

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Governor Ngilu said that the tournament could not go on as a result of the heavy rains pounding the county.

“We have decided to postpone the event because of the heavy rains being witnessed,” she said.

She further added that the event will be used to market Kitui as a tourist destination, as they expect to host over 10,000 fans during the tournament set to be played at Ithokwe showgrounds.

The governor asked sponsors and advertisers to take advantage of the event to market their products.

Governor Ngilu apologized to residents, sports fanatics and sponsors for the postponement while further revealing that her government is keen on fostering good relations with local and foreign investors for the good of the people.
