Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has assured residents of elaborate plans to ensure the county is food secure.
Ngilu urged residents to embrace her administration's food security and water for all policy by using modern farming technologies to maximize production as a measure to end food insecurity.
In a speech read on her behalf by Deputy Governor Wathe Nzau during an event to mark the exit of World Vision in Tseikuru, the Governor said the move is aimed at ensuring the county no longer depends on relief food supplies.
"Through my motto 'Operation Mwolyo (relief food) Out', I appeal to residents to seriously implement the county policy on food security and water for all to change the dry region to green,” said Ngilu.
The county boss hailed World Vision, an international NGO for transforming lives of the residents through provision of water, economic empowerment and food security.
World Vision national director Francis Batalinganya said the organisation has established 15 boreholes, 7 water pans, 1 rock catchment and supported 3 community boreholes that have improved access to potable water in the region.
