Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has surprised many with a shift from flamboyance of the last administration to a simple life.
According to the governor, concentration should be on delivering to the Kitui residents as opposed to displaying power. She has directed all county employees to do something to change lives. The governor is now attending simple burial ceremonies as opposed to the norm of going to the funerals of the haves in society for attention.
“She sat under an acacia tree on a simple plastic chair without a tent over her head and a carpet under her feet when she joined mourners for the burial of 31-year-old Annah Mwikali in Kalambani, a remote area of Mutha ward, Kitui South,” says communication from her office.
Ngilu addressed mourners and promised them not to expect VIP treatment where she has to be given a red carpet, mobile toilet and armchairs.
“The red carpet, armchairs and mobile toilet are now a thing of the past. I do not want to see them in any of my functions,” she said during the burial.
