The county government of Kitui has allocated Sh5.6 million towards the removal of asbestos in Kitui East. 

The new governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has assured the residents that she is committed to ensuring that asbestos-related problems are a thing of the past during her governance in the next five years. 

The county boss on Wednesday spared her time to visit the Kiongwe Hills during removal of toxic waste dumped in Kitui East. 

The asbestos is said to have been dumped in the area in early April 2017. The county government has agreed with a contractor who has already started his work. The county government has put in place all the measures to ensure that safety is guaranteed during the entire process.

In the meantime, the county boss also Former Lands Minister has called upon Kenyans to maintain peace as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deliberates on the way forward following NASA Presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga’s withdrawal from the race.

“I am urging Kenyans (whether they support Jubilee or NASA) to remain united and peaceful in the height of political uncertainty,” she said on Tuesday.
