Four parties from larger Ukambani region are set to sign a pre-election agreement with National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of the August 8 general election.
According to the Standard, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is wooing the four parties into NASA.
The Standard reports that National Rainbow Alliance (Narc), Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU), Muungano Party and People’s Trust Party have agreed to sign a pre-election pact with NASA.
The parties according to the Standard will hold a meeting with NASA top leaders before penning down the agreement.
The leaders of the four parties Charity Ngilu, Wavinya Ndeti, Kivutha Kibwana and Mutua Katuku are said to have met Kalonzo at a local hotel in Nairobi last week where they agreed to back his presidential bid.
Kalonzo has been wooing Ngilu to support him after the former Lands Cabinet Secretary was suspended by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015 over alleged corruption.
Ngilu has since declared interest in the Kitui gubernatorial race.
The alleged decision by Ngilu to back Kalonzo’s bid has been described as a plus for the Wiper party leader.
There have however been claims that Ngilu is considering rejoining President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.
Last week former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile claimed that Jubilee Party supporters Ngilu’s bid for Kitui gubernatorial seat.
Kalonzo and Ngilu have in the past differed on political grounds and their new re-union is likely to shake up Ukambani politics in the coming days.
