Kitui county governor Charity Ngilu has promised to expand the production and distribution of traditional sisal kiondos in the county after the use of plastic bags ban takes effect from August 28.

“Use of plastic bags comes to an end by August 28. My government shall use the opportunity to expand production and sale of the traditional sisal kiondo to all counties as this will increase revenue for women,” she said.

Ngilu added that her administration will prioritize in empowering women and support self help groups in rural areas and boost weaving of baskets to improve their live.

“We must believe in the change that has come to Kitui. I urge the people to remember that the constitution that we fought for was not in vain,” she said.

Ngilu said she will bring services closer to the people in the next 5 years.

She assured that rights and interest of the minority groups in the county will be protected and promoted under her leadership.
