Speaking to journalists at her office on Wednesday, Ngilu said that she will work closely with the national government to ensure that ‘senior’ citizens get the stipend as provided for in the law.

The Governor asked elderly persons eligible for the stipend to register with sub county offices. She said that some elderly persons have been abandoned by their families and cannot cater for their needs.

Ngilu said that her administration will champion the interests of elderly people without discrimination.

She also said that plans are under way to ensure that elderly persons above the age of 70 years get free medical care.

“I will fight for the rights of elderly people and make sure that they are comfortable and have access to basic commodities and good healthcare,” she said as quoted by the People daily.

Ngilu asked elderly persons to speak out and raise issues facing them.

She appealed to residents to support her administration saying her government will deliver all the pledges it made during the campaign.

Ngilu won the governor seat in the recently concluded general election beating immediate Governor Julius Malombe.
